Square Spiral Stairs

Yes, we’re very good at fathoming out the intricacies of spiral stair engineering and fabricating them to fit, but we’re also very good at other high end, commercial, residential and fit out square spiral stair solutions.

Experts in creating bespoke square spiral stairs

Think outside the box; let those treads extend into the furthest reaches of that otherwise unoccupied space and create something unique as well as practical.

We’ve been putting circles into square plans forever, so let’s stop wasting space and make a feature out of corners.

Sony Headquarters offset dog-leg staircase

The stair shown above was created for Sony Interactive in central London. The unusual off-set shape required careful engineering to present the bottom step at the correct angle for the downstairs space. Made from steel, the stair cost around £57k with later additions of glass balustrade and was anchored into the wall at the mid-landing to ensure stability – otherwise costly amends would need to be made to the upper floor to make it strong enough to hold the weight and prevent torsion. The render below shows how the structure of the stair was designed to fit the space.

The result was a quirky but nice-to-use flow between floors in this high end fit-out project of 2018.

Fit Out Case Study

This small square space could’ve simply had a self-supporting spiral straight up the middle, but instead it was designed to flow outwards, fill the void and give more useable walking area.

The darkness of the chosen materials adds drama (but makes it hard to take a photo!) and solidifies the choice of solid riser – often open risers and glass are used to allow more light but the opposite has been used here to great effect.

This particular stair was for a high end tower block development in south east London and cost around £30k due to the quality of materials used.

Luxury Residential Cantilever Helical Stair

Go one step further and square off a helical; OK so technically this is cantilevered but that subtle detailing of the curved, seemingly unsupported central space really adds to the aesthetic. That, and the quality of the no-expense-spared for this particular stair.

The beauty of bespoke is you can specify your vision to fit the project and the Luma development in Kings Cross had a very specific aesthetic to adhere to, designed by Conran and Partners with soft wooden treads capped with golden stringers and balusters to complement the luxury interiors.
